Just two months after Aaron Taos released his Night Thoughts EP, featuring List Pick ‘Off My Mind’, the New York musician has shared his August ruminations with two new tracks. Our favourite of the two is A-side ‘summer in the city’, a lo-fi groove which montages images of living in the baked urban metropolis that is NYC in the height of summer. Moving at a steady pace as to not work up too much sweat in the heat, the track opens with a simple drum beat and consistent synths, which are then joined by weaving guitar lines and jangling tambourine. Taos vocal is hazy and slightly disconnected, singing “people moving all around me” in the daytime, but reprieve comes at night when he’s able to join friends to “leave it all on the dancefloor.” As we wave goodbye to summer in the Western hemisphere, let’s reflect on the good times from the past few months. - Hannah Thacker
